Guide · Checking in
When a student types their ID, Presently shows the name on the roster and asks “Are you …?” before anyone is marked present. A mistyped ID no longer gives the wrong student a P.
Try it
This is the screen students see after they scan. Hira meant to type 13 and typed 31. Tap the buttons on the phone, or pick another case. The class is made up.

Are you Daniyal Raza?
That’s the name on student ID AIML-26-031. Saying yes links this phone to it.
Hira’s phone. Her ID is AIML-26-013.
Hira meant 13 and typed 31. Her phone asks first, so Daniyal isn’t marked present. Nothing is linked or marked yet. Try No, change my ID.
As the cohort page and the sheet would show it
| Student | Today | Linked phone |
|---|---|---|
| Ayesha SiddiquiAIML-26-001 | P | Ayesha’s phone |
| Bilal AhmedAIML-26-002 | A | Bilal’s phone |
| Iqra JavedAIML-26-005 | A | Not linked |
| Hira NaveedAIML-26-013 | A | Not linked |
| Daniyal RazaAIML-26-031 | A | Not linked |
Step by step
They scan the QR code, type the number after the class’s prefix, and tap Check in, as before.
It finds the ID on the roster. Nothing is linked or marked yet.
Not on the roster: refused straight away, and listed under Turned away today on your cohort page.
This phone is already linked to that ID: no question. It goes straight to step 4.
The phone shows the name on the roster for that ID, and the ID in full.
No, change my ID: back to the ID box with the number still there to fix.
Yes, check me in: on to step 4.
The location check if it’s on, the phone is linked to the ID the first time, and the student gets a P in the register and the sheet.
Why it matters
This phone is already linked to student ID AIML-26-031.She stays A.
This student ID is linked to a different phone.
Two wrong marks and two students who can’t check in, fixed by hand after class.
Hira gets a P, Daniyal stays A, and there’s nothing to fix.
No. Once a phone is linked to a student’s ID, Check in goes straight through. They see it the first time they check in, and whenever they type an ID that isn’t linked to their phone.
If they’re too far away, for example, Try again doesn’t ask the question a second time.
It’s refused before any question, and it shows up under Turned away today on your cohort page, so you can see who had trouble.
There’s no question at one-off sessions, because people type their own name and email there instead of an ID.
Anyone on the check-in page can see the name for an ID they type. They still need the live QR code, which changes every 30 seconds, and to be in range if the location check is on.
Students scan a QR code from their seats, confirm it’s them, and the P lands in your Google Sheet.
